Basseterre: St. Kitts, Monday, August 10, 2026: Thirty-seven (37) citizens from the Federation of St. Christopher and Nevis were awarded scholarships by the Taiwan Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and the Taiwan International Cooperation Development Fund (ICDF) at a ceremony held at the St. Kitts Marriott Beach Resort Ballroom on Saturday August 08.
Ambassador Edward Tao announced an increase in the number of available scholarships and asked the recipients to show deep gratitude for the opportunity they received,
“This year, the Federation has secured 37 scholarship slots- an impressive increase of nine over last year, setting a new milestone in the bilateral relations between Taiwan and Saint Kitts and Nevis. To our 37 awardees you are embarking on tertiary education fully sponsored for the next four to five years. I encourage you to carry a deep sense of gratitude for the many people who worked relentlessly to make this opportunity possible.”
Hon. Mark Brantley, Premier of Nevis, reflecting on his academic journey as a scholarship recipient, lauded the durability of the bilateral agreement between Taiwan and St. Kitts and Nevis
“Thirty-seven youngsters are headed off to Taiwan to get an education. It is not just an education it is a free education. I would like to commend the ambassador and government and people of Taiwan for insisting that we, the people of St. Kitts and Nevis, can benefit from their educational institutions and in so doing bring back those skills to St. Kitts and Nevis to aid in our nation’s development.”
Minister of Education, Hon. Dr. Geoffrey Hanley extended formal congratulations to the awardees
“It is truly a joy for me to be here today as we celebrate a remarkable milestone in the lives of 37 bright and ambitious young people – our Taiwan Scholarship Awardees. Your hard work, dedication, and dreams have brought you to this moment, and I could not be prouder. Awardees, Taiwan is not just a place of learning; it is a place of warmth, safety, and growth.”
The Minister of Education shared words of gratitude to Ambassador Tao and the government and people of Taiwan for their continued commitment to supporting the development of the Federation’s human resources and by extension, our twin island state.
