SCHOOLS OBSERVE MOE’S SCHOOL SAFETY WEEK

Basseterre, St. Kitts, Monday, October 12, 2026: The Ministry of Education is observing School Safety Week, with schools across St. Kitts participating in activities aimed at promoting a culture of safety, responsibility and preparedness among students and staff.

Throughout the week, several activities will be held to increase awareness of personal, physical, emotional and digital safety, strengthen emergency preparedness and response procedures, encourage student leadership in promoting safe behaviours, and foster partnerships with emergency services and community stakeholders.

Halliday-Smith, among other schools observing School Safety Week at their general assembly on Monday, focused on promoting safe and responsible behaviour among students and staff.

The assembly featured guest speaker Julian Berry of the National Information and Communications and Technology Centre (ITC), who addressed students on the topic of safety in technology, highlighting the importance of making responsible decisions while using the internet.

During his presentation, Berry outlined important practices for staying safe online and encouraged students to become more aware of potential online risks and to develop habits that protect their personal information and well-being in the digital environment.

The Ministry’s School Safety Week underscores the importance of creating safe and supportive learning environments where students and staff are equipped with the knowledge and skills to respond efficiently to potential risks and emergencies.
