ECDU HOSTS ANNUAL PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT DAY FOR PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SUPERVISORS

Basseterre: St. Kitts, Friday, March 06, 2026: Over 100 supervisors from the public and private early childhood centers within St. Kitts congregated at the CUNA Conference Center on Friday, March 6, to engage in a day of professional development hosted by the Early Childhood Development Unit guided by the theme: Serving with Heart, Growing with Purpose.

ECDU Director, Ms. Kimona Browne, expanded on the guiding theme in her remarks.

“This theme is more than words on a banner. It is a call to action, a reminder of why we do what we do, and a challenge to each of us to lead with compassion, vision, and integrity. As supervisors and proprietors, we are the guiding hands behind every classroom, every lesson, and every child’s experience.”

Acknowledging the vital role of early childhood education, Chief Education Officer, Mr. Francil Morris, expressed gratitude to the supervisors and highlighted a unique and essential attribute needed to work in this sector.

“Your acts of kindness, the seeds of possibility and nurturing the future generations are definitely serving with heart. It truly takes a very special kind of person to serve at this level. A person who gives not only knowledge, but that person gives knowledge with compassion. A person who not only has structure but ensures whatever is done is done in love.”

Minister of Education, Hon Dr. Geoffrey Hanley, thanked the early childhood development unit and its supervisors for their valuable contribution to nation – building.

“Today, your Professional Development Day for both Public & Private Educators, is more than a workshop or a gathering. It is a reaffirmation of our commitment to the nation’s youngest citizens—our children. Every day, you nurture curiosity, guide early development, and help build the emotional, social, and cognitive skills that will serve our students for a lifetime. Your work is not only important; it is indispensable. Let me extend heartfelt congratulations to the proprietors and centers that have reached significant milestones. Your years of service represent dedication, resilience, and a steadfast belief in the power of early childhood education. Thank you for holding the standard high and for remaining pillars of stability in our communities.
