Basseterre, St. Kitts, Monday, October 06, 2025: The St. Kitts and Nevis Technical and Vocational Education and Training Council (SKNTVETC) officially launched its Assessment and Assessment Certification (Internal/External) Training with an opening ceremony on Monday, October 6th.
Dr. Kertney Thompson, CEO, TVET Secretariat, welcomed participants and assured them that training would be an interactive and enriching experience.
“Trust me, this is going to be a very engaging workshop. You are going to learn a lot when it comes to TVET Assessment and Verification. You are going to learn about TVET protocols, procedures, and systems across the region and how we are going to enhance our systems here in St. Kitts and Nevis. So, welcome and enjoy.”
Mrs. Lisa-Romayne Pistana, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, highlighted the importance of training as a key step in advancing the nation’s sustainable development goals
“Today is definitely another significant milestone in our country’s journey towards building a sustainable island state. Technical and Vocational Education Training, CBET (Competency-Based Education and Training) Assessment, and Assessment Verification are at the heart of nation-building. In order for us as a federation to truly empower our people to be a part of the development of critical industries in this federation, we must be able to train, assess, and verify their skills. Thereby increasing their competitiveness in the local, regional, and international markets.”
Facilitators, Ms. Pauline Edwards, Coordinator for Quality Assurance, Grenada National Training Agency (GNTA), and Ms. Gennesta Charles, Coordinator for Standards and Planning, also of the GNTA, expressed gratitude for being chosen to lead the training and gave an overview of the programme.
“During the next three weeks, we will focus on two areas. One cohort will be doing Assessment Level IV, and the other cohort will be doing Assessment Verification, which will lead to two qualifications. The training experience will take a competency-based approach as well, and our approach is to model the behaviour that we expect the participants to adopt and adapt. It will be learner-centered, filled with participatory learning, and practical.”
The three-week training programme will aim to equip participants with the skills necessary to effectively conduct assessments and ensure that certification processes meet national and international standards.
