Basseterre: St. Kitts, Wednesday, August 27, 2025: On Tuesday August 26, The Curriculum Development Unit [CDU] commenced its two-day workshop for principals and teachers of kindergarten to grade 2 on the Digital-OECS Harmonized Pilot Curriculum (D-OHPC). The workshop was preceded with an opening ceremony at Windsor University’s Conference Room.
Chief Education Officer, Mr. Francil Morris offered words of encouragement to participants and enlightened them on the benefits to be derived from incorporating technology in the teaching and learning process.
“The OECS Learning Hub offers immense value. For our teachers, the OECS Learning Hub offers access to high-quality resources, professional development tools, and collaborative opportunities that will enrich your practice and reignite your passion for teaching. For students, it introduces a learner-centered approach that fosters personalized learning, creativity, and the kind of support that drives both academic achievement and personal growth. Together, we are building a future where every learner is seen, every learner is supported, and every learner is inspired as the OECS Learning Hub is not just a milestone, it is a movement to greater teacher delivery and improved student success,” prompted Mr. Morris.
Director of the Curriculum Development Unit (CDU) Mrs. Amanda Serrant – Edmead explained that the workshop will equip participants with the relevant skills and knowledge required to effectively manoeuvre and navigate the OECS Digital Learning Hub, which aligns itself with the National Enhanced Curriculum.
Mrs. Lisa Romayne Pistana, Permanent Secretary reinforced the need for transformation in education and charged participants to embrace the change.
“The curriculum was born out of a recognition that our education system must evolve, not incrementally, but fundamentally. We are living in a time of rapid change, where the demands on our learners, educators and institutions are shifting faster than before. To meet these demands, we must be willing to challenge those long-held assumptions, embrace innovation and cultivate a culture that is not only open to change but driven by it. Transformation is not a destination; it is a mindset.”
