Basseterre, St. Kitts, Friday, October 24, 2025: Mr. Russel Halbert, representative of the Halbert family and grandson of the late Charles A. Halbert, after whom the St. Kitts based library is named, recently presented a special gift to the top awardee of the Charles A. Halbert Public Library’s Easter Read-A-Thon.
The Read-A-Thon, an annual initiative designed to encourage a love for reading among young people, recognized the outstanding reading achievement of its participants.
In giving the award, Mr. Halbert exuded his family’s pleasure as he presented Nailah with a new tablet.
“I would like to take this opportunity to present this gift to Nailah Bacchus, the overall winner of the Easter Read-A-Thon at the Charles A. Halbert Library.”
Standing with Nailah was her mother, Ornella Halliday, as she accepted her award with a show of exuberance.
“I would like to thank Mr. Halbert for awarding me with this gift. I really appreciate it.”
Present at the handing over to support Nailah’s performance and applaud this expression of encouragement by the Halbert family was Ms. Leah Liburd, librarian at Charles A. Halbert Library.
“Mr. Halbert, I would like to thank you for the gift that you presented to Nailah Bacchus. I think it is a valuable presentation. It shows an interest in our young people who are making sure that they maintain a high level of literacy.”
The Read-A-Thon, held annually, challenges participants to read as many books as possible while they are on vacation during the month of April.
