MINISTER OF EDUCATION ENCOURAGES STUDENTS TO UPHOLD VALUES FOR A SUCCESSFUL SCHOOL YEAR

Basseterre: St. Kitts, Monday, September 01, 2025: Hon. Dr. Geoffrey Hanley, Minister of Education, welcomed students, teachers, and staff back to school this week, urging everyone to start the year with purpose, pride, and a commitment to key values: honesty, kindness, respect, and excellence.

“Students, learning doesn’t just happen; it is something we must prepare for. That means coming to school with a curious mind, a positive attitude, and a willingness to try. It means being organized, asking questions, and staying open to feedback. Readiness for learning is about showing up, not just physically, but mentally and emotionally. Every day is a new opportunity to grow, and the more prepared you are, the more you will gain,” Dr. Hanley said. He emphasized that excellence involves giving your best effort, setting goals, and believing in yourself and others, not just achieving high grades.

Students were reminded to follow school rules, attend regularly, be punctual, and come prepared with the necessary materials and proper uniform. The Minister stressed that behaviour reflects personal character and contributes to a positive school community.

Dr. Hanley also called on parents and guardians to support their children by partnering with teachers, encouraging responsibility, and celebrating effort.

“To our parents and guardians: your support is essential. When you partner with teachers and the school, you help create a strong foundation for your child’s success. Encourage your children to take responsibility, celebrate their efforts, and stay engaged with their learning. When families and schools work together, students thrive—and our entire community grows stronger.”

He concluded by challenging students to be honest, kind, respectful, ready to learn, and pursue excellence.
